SAW REVIEW![]() Posted by Fred Rojas on Oct 13, 2009 13:58 (56 days ago) |
Okay, let’s just break the stigma upfront. The concept of the Saw franchise coming to gaming seems like an idea that only sounds great to the marketing department. Logistically Saw is difficult to translate to gaming because the entire concept is pain, torture and sacrifice to solve a puzzle and free yourself. If you were forced to actually stick your hand in a vat of acid for a key, it would hold up, but as it stands there’s no degree of vibrating on a controller to emulate that experience. On the other hand, the puzzles and environments provided by Saw make for an ideal concept for a video game. Saw suffers from some basic flaws but ultimately comes out on top with a lengthy and decent campaign.
![]() Most people will remember the reverse bear trap from the movies
You play as Detective Tapp, a cop that has obsessed over catching Jigsaw so much that he has caused problems for those around him. As is always the case in the Saw world, Jigsaw captures Tapp to teach him a lesson about obsession and locks him in an abandoned insane asylum with countless traps and puzzles that he will be forced to overcome. Jigsaw doesn’t necessarily kill people; he places them in circumstances, which he calls “games”, that can grant the players what they seek if they can solve the puzzle. As Tapp you fight your way through the massive asylum with a new trap or puzzle around every corner for the opportunity to confront Jigsaw.
