Rumor: EA Tiburon Developing New NFL Blitz?
Electronic Arts may be working on a revival of Midway's classic NFL Blitz series.
An anonymous source told gaming website Giant Bomb's Jeff Gerstmann that EA Tiburon is potentially working on a new NFL Blitz title. Details were scarce, but the tipster claims the game won't release until at least 2012 and for multiple platforms.
NFL Blitz was originally released by Midway Games, the series was largely put on hold after Electronic Arts acquired the exclusive rights to use the NFL license for videogames in late 2004. The last NFL licensed NFL Blitz title released was NFL Blitz Pro in 2003. A spin off series known as "Blitz: The League" was released in its place, largely relying on fictional teams and players. After publisher Midway Game's bankruptcy in 2009, the current rights holder is unknown.
Electronic Arts has recently revived another former Midway IP, NBA Jam on the Wii, Xbox 360, and PlayStation 3 with the aid of series creator Mark Turmell.
When approached for further information by Giant Bomb, Electronic Arts replied they do not, "comment on rumors or speculation".

1 comments so far (post your own)There can be plenty of rumors about a Blitz remake, but with the NFL's continuing crackdown on hard hits, celebrations, and other Blitz staples-- any remake is going to be diluted and not what players of the original will remember.
