WBIE announces release month and pre-order information concerning the new Mortal Kombat.

In a recent press release, Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment and Sony announced a number of things about the upcoming Mortal Kombat reboot.

Firstly, the companies confirmed the rumors that Kratos of the God of War series will be in the PlayStation 3 version of the game. They also set the game's target release date for April 2011, and Sony is working with NetherRealm Studios to make it 3D compatible.

"We could not be more excited to have Kratos in the new Mortal Kombat, since we've always felt he would fit perfectly into our universe and can't wait for Mortal Kombat and God of War fans to play this game," NetherRealm Studios creative director and MK creator Ed Boon said in a press release. "Not only is Kratos in the game, but we have an exciting partnership with Sony to develop Mortal Kombat in Stereoscopic 3-D, which makes the fighting experience much more immersive."

The press release also revealed the creation of two special editions of the reboot. The Kollector's Edition comes with Sub-Zero and Scorpion figurines and an art book, plus free DLC containing costume skins from the classic Mortal Kombat games and avatar outfits. The Tournament Edition, of which there will be only 20,00 copies, will come will all of this plus a "portable fighting stick."

Finally, they gave information about the pre-order bonuses. Fans who purchase the game from one of three retailers will receive playable characters skins and the original fatalities from one of three Mortal Kombat characters: Scorpion for GameStop, Sub-Zero for Best Buy, and Reptile for Amazon.

The Mortal Kombat reboot (also known as Mortal Kombat 9) will be available for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360.
