Nintendo Posts Warning About Use of the 3DS
Nintendo is suggesting that children under six shouldn't use the 3DS due to eyesight concerns.
Nintendo has posted warning guidelines on their Japanese website concerning the use of their new handheld device.
They suggest that parents switch the 3DS to 2D mode when children under six play, due to the fact that their eyes are still developing and it could potentially damage them. They also say that 3D gameplay causes more rapid eye fatigue, and therefore gamers should take a break every 30 minutes, and stop immediately if they begin to feel ill.
Similar concerns have been expressed about 3D movies and television, as well as about Nintendo's Virtual Boy back in the 1990's. However, research regarding the subject is still on going.
The 3DS will be released on February 26, 2011 in Japan, and in March in all other areas.
