World of Warcraft Cataclysm Guide: Vashj'ir

Vashj'ir is one of the two new questing zones introduced in World of Warcraft: Cataclysm for level 80 players to begin in. Vashj'ir is a zone completely underwater.

Vashj'ir is one of two new starter quest zones in World of Warcraft: Cataclysm, that, along with Mount Hyjal is aimed at level 80 players to begin questing in. Both the Horde and Alliance players can begin questing in Vashj'ir.

Getting to Vashj'ir

Level 80 players will pick up a quest that will take them to Vashj'ir, it can be picked up in either Stormwind or Orgrimmar. The quest leads to an event that will see the player transported to Vashj'ir, after which a portal will be available in a player's home city. The entire zone is underwater and a player's first quest will be to gather some items which will enable them to breathe underwater and have increased movement speed whilst swimming.

Questing in Vashj'ir

After the players has completed the first quest in Vashj'ir for their 'Sealegs' many more will become available, there is also a quest given where a player has to wrangle a sea horse and take it back to the quest giver, if they succeed in this they will be given an Abyssal Seahorse ridable mount, which can only be used in Vashj'ir. The main faction in this zone is the Earthen Ring and players will get a decent amount of reputation with this faction by the time they have finished the zone. There are many fun quests to do and are enjoyable. For the achievement 'Sinking into Vashj'ir' a player needs to complete 160 quests in Vashj'ir, this is not difficult to do.

Vashj'ir is a unique zone in World of Warcraft and one that has been done very well, the only problem players had is that it is a very large zone divided into three: Kelp'thar Forest, Abyssal Depths and Shimmering Expanse, and it does take time to move from quest hub to quest hub, especially if compared to Mount Hyjal which is a very compact zone.

In general though, Vashj'ir is highly enjoyable whether a player begins questing there at 80 or whether they leave it until they have done all the others.
