Microsoft to Discontinue Xbox Live on Original Xbox

Microsoft set to discontinue Xbox Live services for the original Xbox.
On April 15th, 2010 Microsoft will discontinue all Xbox Live services for original Xbox games that use the service. This also includes Xbox games played on a Xbox 360 through backwards compatibility or the Xbox Originals program. A specific reason for the closure has currently not been given.
Microsoft's Marc Whitten claimed it wasn't a "decision we made lightly, but after careful consideration, it is clear this will provide the greatest benefit to the Xbox LIVE community."
Whitten promised those who are still subscribed to Xbox Live on the original Xbox will be receiving some sort of a bonus.
We will contact the Xbox LIVE members directly impacted by this change and if this includes you, I encourage you to check your LIVE messages and associated e-mail account over the coming weeks for more details and opportunities. We view you as a partner in this process.
Xbox Live originally launched on the Xbox console November 2002.
