Rumor: Rebellion Derby Shuttered, Oxford Layoffs?

Inside sources hint at layoffs and studio closures at Rebellion Developments.

Insider sources have tipped off Develop Online to potential layoffs at Rebellion Oxford along with the closure of the Derby studio.

Rumors claim the Rebellion Oxford head count was reduced by approximately 20 people. Layoffs after the release of a big game aren't necessarily uncommon in the development industry, the Oxford studio recently released Aliens vs. Predator.

In 2006 Rebellion purchased the employees, office, and some assets of Core Design from Eidos. It was announced in late January that the studio would be "evaluated" and staff "consulted" on its future, in February it was announced the studio would be closed if a buyer was not found. Rebellion Derby as the studio was named was recently responsible for Shellshock 2: Blood Trails and Rouge Warrior after publisher Bethesda was unsatisfied with Zombie Studios work on the title.
