Interplay Announces MDK2 WiiWare, HD
Interplay announces an HD remake of the classic as well as a WiiWare port.
Interplay has announced plans to bring MDK2 to WiiWare, the company also outed an HD remake of the title for PC. Both ports will be handled by Beamdog which was founded by ex BioWare employees, some of whom originally worked on MDK2.
“It is a great pleasure to announce that we are returning to the adventures of Kurt Hectic, Dr. Hawkins and the 6-legged gun-toting robotic dog Max.”, said Hervé Caen, CEO of Interplay. "MDK2 was a great title to work on and we're happy to have some of the original team working on these new versions" seconded Trent Oster, co-Founder of Beamdog.
MDK2 will release on WiiWare this Winter, a release for MDK2 HD was not announced although it will be digital only through Beamdog's digital distribution service.
MDK2 was originally released in 2000 for the PC, Dreamcast, and PlayStation 2.
UPDATE
For those in doubt, the release can also be found on Interplay's site.
UPDATE 2
When asked how the game will fit into Nintendo's 40 MB limit for WiiWare games, Interplay's Eric Caen responded with the following.
Code & gameplay is fitting in the 40MB.
We won’t use any pre-rendered videos in between levels, but also most the original textures of MDK2 weren’t compressed, so it will fit.

This is so awesome and this means that Interplay DO really have the intention to further the MDK franchise or update it. Spectacular news. Equally as hyped as when I heard Croteam were making both encounters of Serious Sam HD.
