Pitbull Syndicate Founder Opens Pitbull Studios
Pitbull Syndicate founder revives Pitbull name after Midway Studios Newcastle closure.
Robert Troughton, the cofounder Pitbull Syndicate which was later acquired by Midway Games and renamed Midway Stuidos Newcastle has opened Pitbull Studio. Pitbull Syndicate was acquired by Midway Games in 2007 for over £3 million.
"The North East has a lot of games development talent. It was a very sad day when the old studio closed and it’s really been my dream to revive it, said Troughton, managing director of the new business.
The studio opens a year after Midway Studios Newcastle was shuttered by parent company Midway Games during their bankruptcy proceedings as the studio was unable to find external financing.
"The industry has changed a lot since the day that we sold the original Pitbull – it was a real shame that Midway’s management never seemed to move fast enough with the trends. We won’t be making the mistakes of the past with the new studio – what happened there has actually strengthened us, I would say, we’ve learnt a lot from the experience of being part of a large publisher."
Pitbull Syndicate was responsible for various Test Drive titles as well as LA Rush. Under the Midway Studios Newcastle name, the studio created Wheelman and the canceled Necessary Force.
