Street Fighter X Tekken Announced

Capcom and Namco team up to bring the fighters from Street Fighter and Tekken together for the first time in a new 2D fighter.

During Comic-Con, Capcom and Namco revealed their new 2D fighter that brings the fighters from Street Fighter and Tekken together for the first time.

Street Fighter X Tekken is the newest fighting game that allows players to live out their fighting fantasies by putting the fighters from Street Fighter and Tekken against each other.

The game is powered by the Street Fighter IV engine. The characters from the Tekken universe will take on the new graphic style that Street Fighter IV has established.

Much like Street Fighter IV, the game will render all the fighters in 3D, but they will still fight on a 2D plane.

The press release claims that all the fighters will retain their signature moves and the game will feature a tag team system "where players select two fighters to deliver knockout assist attacks and special combos."

The trailer was revealed to fans at Comic-Con where producer Yoshinori Ono had the following to say,

"This is history we're making. Two fighting games that have rivalled each other are finally standing on the same stage. This isn't just a showdown between Tekken and Street Fighter, but a decisive battle for Capcom and Namco Bandai Games. So I'm going to give it my all."

According to 1UP, the game is set to be released in about two years. It will launch on the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. The two studios had previously collaborated on the PlayStation 2 action RPG Namco x Capcom.
