Medal of Honor banned from Military Base Stores
AAFES bans new Medal of Honor over Taliban controversy.
The recent controversy over a feature in the upcoming Medal of Honor game has led the Army and Air Force Exchange Services and GameStop to ban the game from any stores located on Army and Air Force bases.
The AAFES sent a request to GameStop that the game be pulled from the 49 stores located on U.S. bases, and the company agreed to do so out of respect for American soldiers. GameStop explained the decision in an email to their employees, obtained by Kotaku:
"GameStop has agreed out of respect for our past and present men and women in uniform we will not carry Medal of Honor in any of our AAFES based stores ... GameStop fully supports AAFES in this endeavor and is sensitive to the fact that in multiplayer mode one side will assume the role of Taliban fighter."
The Medal of Honor reboot has recently drawn criticism for a feature that will allow players to take the role of Taliban soldiers in the online mode. While Electronic Arts believes such a feature is necessary, others find it to be offensive creating a divide amongst gamers on the issue. EA declined to comment on the recent ban.
Medal of Honor will be released for the PC, PS3, and Xbox 360 on October 12 in the U.S. and October 15 in Europe.
