Capcom Needs 1 Million Requests For New Darkstalkers

Yoshinori Ono wants a new Darkstalkers game, but needs one million requests.

Capcom producer Yoshinori Ono said in an interview with Eurogamer that bringing back the quirky arcade fighter Darkstalkers is his "ultimate dream."

Ono is encouraged by the recent revival of interest in arcade fighters thanks to the numerous crossovers such as Street Fighter X Tekken. If the new crossover does well, and fans express enough interest, a new Darkstalkers will be possible.

"This is all up to the readers. They have to create the buzz. They have to tell us. They have to write the condition. They have to send in all these letters of plead. That is the only thing that will make Inafune-san nod."

According to Ono, Capcom needs to receive one million requests before it will agree to make the new game. The company has received 5,000 so far.

The producer suggests that fans do anything they can to make noise about Darkstalkers, saying that the work of the fans is the reason that the new Street Fighter crossover exists.

"The reason Street Fighter IV came into reality was through this sort of lobbying. When I used to do press tours with Onimusha, press guys would just ask me, 'So many people want a new Street Fighter. Why aren't you doing it?' I kept on telling them to make more noise about it. That's how it came to realisation."
