Russell Has Returned to Direct Uncharted Movie
After leaving to direct Pride and Prejudice and Zombies, David O. Russell is back on the Uncharted movie team.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, David O. Russell has been confirmed as writer and director for the upcoming movie based on the Uncharted series.
Russell was in negotiations with Sony to direct the movie back in May, but decided instead to commit to direct the film adaptation of Pride and Prejudice and Zombies. However, since the film's lead Natalie Portman had to drop out, Russell decided to quit, too, and went back to Sony to make his role in the Uncharted movie official.
Co-president of Sony's Columbia Pictures Matt Tolmach has high praise for the director:
"David is a tremendous choice to take on this film. He's equally adept at combining all the classic elements involved in this property: great character development, strong comedy, and amazing action sequences. He has a brilliant vision for this material and we know he will bring his original, unique voice to this adaptation."
Although a script for the film was already written by Thomas Dean Donnelly and Joshua Oppenheimer, Russell will be creating a new draft. The director is credited with such films as Three Kings and I Heart Huckabees.
